This week has been a challenge. But I woke up this morning, so there’s that.
Trying to get my holiday mojo going; and what better way than through the power of Christmas music.
Here are my favorite songs that I rock out to during the Christmas holiday season.
sn: I tried to put Pentatonix in the 5 slot, but the ghost of hip hop Christmas past, present, and future would not allow it. Dead serious.
#5- No explanation necessary here except: Hip hop + December 25th = Christmas in Hollis
#4- This version made me completely forget there were other versions. The timeless Stevie Wonder and Andra Day hit this out of the park. I usually play it back to back because it seems to end so quickly. Or maybe that is just the version from the original commercial that throws me. Christmas dopeness.
Someday at Christmas
#3- Donny Hathaway’s vocals are always the most soulful (do your life a solid and cop his greatest hits album with the drawing of him on the cover), and he does not disappoint here. Could be my number one jam any given holiday season; but for now, we will go with This Christmas at number 3.
#2- I love this song. Always have. Always will. When it came out, I realized it was ok to like NEWER Christmas songs. Them Motown Philly boys and Brian McKnight were back again and killing em softly with Let it Snow.
#1- The G.O.A.T. joint in my humble opinion. Even as a kid, I remember being in awe of this particular Nat King Cole classic. If I could only listen to one Christmas song every year for the rest of my life, this would be the one.
The Christmas Song
Hopefully these tunes will put you (and me) in the Christmas spirit if you aren’t quite there yet.
Merry Christmas to all from Eshkoshka, and thanks for rocking with us.
